Christmas Thoughts
The following was posted to the Mike's Funnies website and may be freely distributed. Many thanks to the author, Dan Bode.God bless you all,Barry
CHRISTMAS THOUGHTS - A SILENT AND HOLY NIGHTBy Dan Bode It was indeed a Silent and Holy night. There was little left to do but watch. The animals had long since fallen asleep. The small town activities had for the most part ceased, and those who still escaped the realm of dreams were oblivious to the occasion to which they were not witness. Most were merely puzzled by the Star never seen before even though it seemed to hover right over this little town of Bethlehem, a town whose very existence was based on the industry of providing sacrificial lambs for the temple in Jerusalem. The only sounds were the moans of a young, soon-to-be mother in the final hours of a labor that had begun in the Garden so long ago. The will of her body was overcome by the need of the moment as contraction after contraction contorted her features with pain. But she had known this was out of her control from the moment she became aware of His presence. The only other person aware of the import of this moment is the man at her side. The one on whose shoulders fall the responsibility of helping to bring into this world He who will be the Flesh of God.All the questions that race through their minds are pushed aside as the symphony of the birthing process reaches its crescendo, and suddenly the Life of Man is Present in this world.I find myself envious of their perspective. They were there at the beginning, and all they knew of the child at that moment was the name of His Father and His role as Savior of the world. They could take joy in the grasping hands and the baby’s laughter.I, on the other hand, have the historical perspective as well. I can look back at His birth, and look back at His death as well. And there lies the difference..I cannot see the newborn babe without the grown man on the cross.I cannot see the grasping hands without the nails piercing His flesh.I cannot see the smooth brow without the thorns. What I can see is the mercy of our maker. Some would say we deserve only His pity for what we've done with what He's given us, but pity is merely mercy without action, and God can never be described as complacent. He has always been active in His love for us, even undeserving as we are. And because of all this I will always see the whole life of Christ as the Great Substitution. Completely undeserved.Undeserved by Christ for suffering penalties not meant for Him.Undeserved by me for being unable to make the necessary sacrifice. It took so long for me to discover that I truly needed a Savior. And so I sit as the world goes by around me; almost everyone once again oblivious to the occasion to which they are not witness. So, into this Silent and Holy Night I have these three things to say:God have mercy.Joy to the world when you recognize your Lord.Happy Birthday Jesus!
Though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, that you through His poverty might become rich. —2 Corinthians 8:9
Merry CHRISTmas my friends!!
love you

My 50th Birthday
I have not really been feeling all that well lately.. I think it has been a combo of things. My headaches have returned and work is slow, so the money is tight, my 50th was coming up and I thought that it was going to be a really cool age but as the AARP cards started arriving I decided maybe not.. I was feeling every ache and pain. Everything started to pile up and I went into my own little pity party..
Well my birthday got here and I decided to take the day off and have a me day. I went and had my hair done since the racing stripe down the middle did not help my feeling any better about myself. Then I talked to Ashley we met up went and had pedicures, lunch, and did a little shopping. It turned out to be a really nice day. That evening Peter took me out for a nice dinner. The next morning, we woke up and he took me to San Diego Zoo yes thats right the Zoo. Neither of us has been there since we were in elementary school and we had a great time. We got home and as I walked in the door much to my SURPRISE my Hubby and kids planned a birthday party for me. They knew that I was in such a funk and totally pulled it off :)
Ok so my lesson learned...What do I really have to complain about??? I am totally blessed!!! I have a God who Loves me!! A family who adores me, Grandchildren who are the cutest :) family and friends who are always there and I can count on to call anytime!! It is time to stop focusing on me and start looking at giving Thanks to a Loving Father, Husband, Children, Grandchildren, and Friends...
"If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others." Philippians 2:1-4

Wisdom's Calling: Is God Reaching Out
Ref. Proverbs 1: 20-33
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; Fools despise wisdom and instruction (Proverbs 1:7)
Wisdom shouts in the street, she lifts her voice in the square; At the head of the noisy (streets) she cries out; At the entrance of the gates in the city she utters her sayings:
“How long, O naïve ones, will you love being simple-minded? And scoffers delight themselves in scoffing and fools hate knowledge?
“Turn at My reproof, Behold, I will pour out My Spirit on you; I will make My words known to you. “Because I called and you refused, I stretched out My hand and no one paid attention; And you neglected all My counsel and did not want My reproof; I will also laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your dread comes, When your dread comes like a storm and your calamity comes like a whirlwind, When distress and anguish come upon you. “Then they will call on Me, but I will not answer; They will seek me diligently but they will not find Me, Because they hated knowledge and did not choose the fear of the Lord. “They would not accept My counsel, they spurned My reproof. “So they shall eat of the fruit of their own way and be satiated with their own devices.
“For the waywardness of the naïve will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them. “But he who listens to Me shall live securely and will be at ease from the dread of evil.”
Notes:
Wisdom is knowing God’s mind so that we might know what the next best move should be. In the first nineteen verses Solomon advises his son, Who you should not be listening to. How not to be listening to Satan’s enticements; and instead make the right choices, the right decisions in life. Who among us, can remember back when we wish we would have not listened to someone’s enticements? . . . Someone’s ill advise?
Now in verse twenty, Solomon advises who you should be listening to. The Hebrew word translated “proverb” means “to be like” and deals with ethical and moral aspects of life. They are practical and not theoretical, and point the way to godly character.
Wisdoms call: The truly wise person will hear the Word of God and obey it.
“Turn from sin.” Turn to My reproof, Behold, I will pour out My spirit on you; I will make My words known to you ( vs. 23). If the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, then it begins right here with repentance. We must turn from our sin out of our fear of the Lord. Renounce it publicly. God desires it with the activity of wisdom.
We are being naïve not to want God’s reproof. For God says “ scoffers delight themselves in scoffing, fools despise wisdom and instruction, and fools hate knowledge. The word “fool” in Scripture refers to one who is arrogant and self-sufficient, one who orders his life as if there were no God. The fool says in his heart “ There is no God!” ( Psalm 14:1).
But there is another reason, another aspect here. A word of warning from God that we cannot ignore. We have dopler radar to tell us of an up coming storm. And they are usually pretty accurate as to when they will arrive. God is not forecasting “ sunny skies” but rather an impending storm. Because I called and you refused, I stretched out my hand and no one paid attention; vs.24, And you neglected all My counsel and did not want My reproof; vs. 25, I will also laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your dread comes, vs. 26, When your dread comes like a storm, and your calamity comes like a whirlwind, when distress and anguish come upon you vs.27.
Notice He did not say, “If” but “when” your storms come. One of the things the Bible says about God, is that it is impossible for God to lie. Don’t misunderstand what the meaning of reproofs from God are in someone’s life. There is plenty of evidence from Scripture that God chastens us because He loves us, everyone whom He calls a son.
And you have forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons: My son, do not take the Lord’s discipline lightly, or faint when you are reproved by Him; for the Lord disciplines the one He loves, and punishes every son whom He receives. Endure it as discipline: God is dealing with you as sons ( Hebrews 12:5-7).
There is hope for us, for those of us who receive God’s reproof and repent. As we turn from our sin, and turn to the Lord, When have His word of promise, that for all eternity we will be with Him. In verse 33, of the text, “But he who listens to me shall live securely And will be at ease from the dread of evil. A promise from God that the wise will not be forgotten.
Prayer, Lord Jesus, We cry out to You with hearts that need Your blessings. Give us wisdom to make right decisions that will bring honor to You, and will purify our hearts.
Let the words we speak draw us closer to Your presence, and closer to each other. We recognize, O Lord, that You are in control of all things. Help us in this nation to hear Your voice, and turn from our sins at Your reproof, so that You will protect us from evil. And lead us in the right path, the path of righteousness for Your Name’s sake. Let us faithfully support those elected to office, giving honor to their position, being faithful in prayer, that those whom You have chosen to lead this nation, will fulfill their duties and obligation and responsibilities to the people of our country.
In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
